In short
Play is 4-camera Cosmos with the shared 2880×1700 panel. USD for Play is unpublished on the 2020-02-20 newsroom. Do not copy $699 or $899 onto this H1. Grams and IPD millimeters stay unpublished.
Who it is for
- Owners documenting Play from HTC’s 20 February 2020 series announcement.
Who should skip it
- Shoppers who need a published Play US list. HTC deferred it on that post.
- Anyone who wants six-camera inside-out ($699 Cosmos) or SteamVR Elite ($899).
- People who need published grams or an IPD millimeter window.
- Standalone / no-PC buyers. Play is still PC VR on this newsroom.
Key differentiators
- 4-camera inside-out (newsroom). Upgrade path via Cosmos faceplates, including $199 External Tracking Faceplate (Q2 2020 story).
- Same series display as every Cosmos: 2880 × 1700 combined LCD (newsroom).
- Flip-up visor and modular faceplates (series copy).
Caveats
- Display cells come from the series sentence (“Every VIVE Cosmos”). Play-only panel deviations are not on that post.
- No grams, no IPD millimeters, no refresh/FOV degree on the Play section. Do not copy Cosmos developer-table 90 Hz / maximum 110° here unless a Play-titled spec table is cited.
- Cosmos XR in the same post is a different upcoming passthrough / developer-kit SKU — not this H1.
- No hands-on testing.
VR-category specs
Same rows on every headset hub (Vision Pro, Quest, Galaxy XR, PICO, PS VR2). FOV, weight, and battery cells quote the manufacturer footnote — they are not lab measurements.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the $699 Cosmos?
No. $699 on the 2020-02-20 post is the six-camera Cosmos. Play is the 4-camera SKU; HTC did not print Play’s USD there.
Same display as Cosmos?
HTC’s series sentence says every Cosmos shares 2880 × 1700 combined LCD. Refresh and FOV degrees are not on the Play announcement.
Can Play use lighthouse?
The same post names a $199 External Tracking Faceplate in Q2 2020 as an upgrade for Cosmos or Play. That is an accessory, not the stock Play faceplate.
