In short
Quest 2 is discontinued at Meta’s store and still worth a hub. Same 1832×1920 physical cell as Quest 3S; the upgrade to 3/3S is color MR + XR2 Gen 2, not “more pixels vs 3S.” Grayscale passthrough is the honest OEM row.
Who it is for
- Owners asking whether Quest 2 is “still enough” versus Quest 3 or 3S.
- People with a working Quest 2 and a Meta account who want the documented hardware, not a eulogy.
Who should skip it
- Anyone trying to buy a new unit from Meta. The tech-specs page steers shoppers to Quest 3S.
- Buyers who need color mixed reality. Developer table: grayscale, low resolution; no depth sensor.
Key differentiators
- Largest standalone installed base in this set. Discontinued ≠ abandoned as a URL.
- Developer table vs Quest 3: XR2 Gen 1, 6 GB, 1832×1920, grayscale passthrough, no depth.
- Consumer tech-specs: Fast-Switch LCD, 60–120 Hz, glasses compatible, 3.5 mm audio, PC optional via Link.
Caveats
- Live Meta URLs returned HTTP 400 from this environment. Indexed tech-specs + developer tables only.
- Do not write “3S is sharper.” Same physical resolution cell.
- Meta help pages describe support/feature-update windows for older headsets; those dates move — re-open Support before quoting an end-of-life year.

Overview
Quest 2 stays a first-class hub. Meta’s own page says no longer available and points shoppers at Quest 3S. That sentence is why this page exists: the hardware is still in living rooms.
OEM table (keep these splits)
- Panel: Fast-Switch LCD, 1832×1920 per eye.
- Chip / RAM / storage: XR2 Gen 1, 6 GB, 128/256 GB.
- Passthrough: grayscale, low res; no depth sensor.
- PC: optional Link. Standalone first.
- Refresh: consumer page includes 60 Hz; developer 3 vs 2 table does not. Flag, don’t flatten.
FOV and weight
Not on the cited Quest 2 pages. The cells stay empty of degrees and grams. Do not steal 3S’s 96° horizontal.
Support window
Meta’s older-headset help pages (indexed in other locales this desk pass) describe feature-update and security-update end dates. Those are policy, not silicon. Re-open the English help article before a vs-page quotes a year.

Frequently asked questions
Why write a discontinued headset?
Meta still documents the hardware, and owners still type Quest 2 vs Quest 3. Discontinued at the store is not a reason to skip the URL.
Is Quest 3S the same display as Quest 2?
Same physical 1832×1920 per-eye number on Meta’s render-scale table. That is not a clarity verdict, and it is not a color-passthrough verdict.
Does Quest 2 have color passthrough?
The developer comparison says grayscale, low resolution. Do not upgrade that from a YouTube clip.
Can it play PC VR?
Optionally, with Link Cable, per the tech-specs page. GPU/OS minimums belong on Meta’s live Link document, not invented here.
