In short
LCD Deck is the first-generation Steam machine: same 800p control layout and 8 RDNA 2 CUs as OLED, on a 7-inch 60Hz IPS, Wi-Fi 5, 40Wh, and ~669g. Buy leftover LCD if the price is the point and you already accept SteamOS. Skip it if you want Valve’s current panel, 90Hz, Wi-Fi 6E, and 50Wh table — that is the OLED hub.
Who it is for
- Used / leftover shoppers who want SteamOS and Deck’s trackpad layout at a lower ticket than OLED.
- Owners documenting the original 2022 hardware against OLED, Ally, or Switch 2.
- People who specifically want the 7-inch IPS / 400-nit-typical / 60Hz sheet Valve still publishes at /tech/deck.
- Repair and refurb buyers matching a 7nm / LPDDR5-5500 / 40Wh unit.
Who should skip it
- Anyone buying new who can afford OLED. Valve’s own compare module now treats OLED as the current pair.
- Buyers who need 90Hz, HDR, or Wi-Fi 6E — those rows are OLED-only.
- Windows-first shoppers. LCD Deck ships SteamOS 3, same as OLED.
- People who need more than 15W APU power. Same 4–15W envelope as OLED.
Key differentiators
- Original Steam Deck control language: dual 32.5mm haptic trackpads, four grip buttons, capacitive sticks, SteamOS 3.
- Valve still publishes a dedicated LCD spec sheet (7nm, 7-inch IPS, 40Wh, 2–8 hours, ~669g).
- 64GB eMMC class SKU existed; OLED never offered 64GB on the current sheet.
- Leftover pricing is the commercial story, not a faster GPU than OLED.
Caveats
- 64GB and 512GB LCD are “available while supplies last” on Valve’s LCD sheet. Do not write them as a forever store SKU.
- Launch US prices ($399/$529/$649) were cut when OLED launched. Re-check the live store; leftover street prices go stale.
- Do not paste OLED 1,000-nit / 90Hz / Wi-Fi 6E rows onto this page.
- GadgetShowdown has not lab-tested LCD Deck. 2–8 hour gameplay is Valve’s range.

Overview
Steam Deck LCD is the original Deck. Valve’s live LCD spec page still describes a 7nm AMD APU, 7-inch optically bonded IPS, 1280×800 at 60Hz, 400 nits typical, 16GB LPDDR5-5500, 40Wh, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, ~669g, and SteamOS 3.
This hub exists so leftover and used-market writers do not accidentally paste OLED rows onto a 2022 unit. The first table is handhelds-v1.
We have not bench-tested this hardware. Quote Valve’s 2–8 hour range; do not invent a 2026 rundown.
Display
7-inch optically bonded IPS LCD, 1280×800, 60Hz, 400 nits typical, touch enabled, ALS. No HDR row on this sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Is LCD Deck still sold?
Valve’s LCD sheet still lists 64/256/512GB and marks 64GB and 512GB as while-supplies-last. The compare module still shows a 256GB LCD row. Treat it as leftover, not as Valve’s current flagship.
Same GPU as OLED?
Same published class: 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.6 TFlops, 4–15W. OLED’s APU is 6nm with faster RAM. Do not write “OLED is a new GPU generation.”
Does LCD Deck have HDR?
Not on the LCD spec sheet. HDR OLED language is the other hub.
What is the battery claim?
40Wh; 2–8 hours of gameplay. The original PDF adds 30FPS / 50% brightness / 50% volume as the estimate condition.
SteamOS or Windows?
Valve ships SteamOS 3 with KDE Plasma. Windows is not the OEM SKU.
