In short

Go S is the 8-inch 1200p VRR Legion with fused controllers, 55.5Wh, dual USB4, and official Windows 11 or SteamOS SKUs. Buy it for the 8APU1 sheet. Skip it if you want original Go’s detachable 8.8-inch 1600p tablet or Go 2’s 8.8-inch OLED / 74Wh family.

Who it is for

  • Buyers who want an 8-inch 16:10 1200p VRR Legion with fused (not detachable) controllers.
  • People who specifically want a first-party SteamOS Legion SKU — PSREF lists SteamOS alongside Windows 11 Home.
  • Shoppers comparing 55.5Wh + Super Rapid Charge against original Go’s 49.2Wh and Ally X’s 80Wh.

Who should skip it

  • Anyone who wants detachable TrueStrike + 8.8-inch 2560×1600. That is original Legion Go 8APU1.
  • Buyers who want Go 2’s 8.8-inch OLED / 74Wh / Z2 Extreme family.
  • People who need a published Ally-style 9–30W TDP row. PSREF says graphics TGP shares CPU TDP — no wattage table.
  • Nintendo-first players.

Key differentiators

  • 8-inch 1920×1200 IPS, 500 nits, 48–120Hz VRR, 100% sRGB, Panda King Glass — not 8.8-inch 1600p.
  • Official SteamOS SKU on the same 8APU1 PSREF as Windows 11 Home.
  • Fused controllers, 10×10mm right touchpad, Y1/Y2, LT/RT range switches — not original Go’s detachable FPS mouse deck.
  • 55.5Wh + Super Rapid Charge (10 / 30 / 80 minute table) and 14.5h 1080p video @150 nits (not a gameplay claim).

Caveats

  • RAM is 16GB or 32GB soldered. Say which SKU you mean.
  • SteamOS and Windows are different sold configs, not a dual-boot promise on one unit.
  • GadgetShowdown has not lab-tested Go S. Video hours are Lenovo’s MobileMark / playback footnotes.
