In short

AYANEO 3 is the modular 7-inch 1080p Windows handheld: HX 370 or 8840U, up to 35W, 49Wh, optional OLED 144Hz / 800 nits or LCD VRR, 690g with standard modules. Buy it for swappable controller modules. Skip it if you want SteamOS as shipped or a single locked Ally/Deck SKU.

Who it is for

  • Windows buyers who want AYANEO’s modular controller system (standard / touchpad / fighting modules) on a 7-inch 1080p handheld.
  • People comparing HX 370 (up to 35W) against Z1 Extreme / Z2 Extreme sheets without mixing those APUs.
  • Shoppers who specifically want the OLED 144Hz / 800-nit option or the LCD VRR / FreeSync option — they are different sold screens.

Who should skip it

  • SteamOS-first buyers. AYANEO 3 is a Windows handheld with AYASpace 3.0. Edition (Home vs Pro) is not printed on the spec block we accessed.
  • People who want a single locked storage/RAM SKU. The family lists four memory+SSD pairs.
  • Buyers who need a published gameplay-hour curve. AYANEO prints 49Wh, not a 3–12 hour table.
  • Nintendo-first players.

Key differentiators

  • Modular controllers: standard, optional touchpad, optional fighting module. Standard module is included; others are store extras.
  • Two official 7-inch 1080p screens: OLED up to 144Hz / 800 nits, or LCD 120Hz VRR / 500 nits / FreeSync Premium.
  • HX 370 or 8840U; performance up to 35W; LPDDR5X-7500; 49Wh; 65W PD + bypass charging.
  • Dual USB4 + OCuLink 64Gbps + dual six-axis gyros + two rear buttons.

Caveats

  • This hub treats HX 370 + OLED as the flagship reading. 8840U and LCD are sibling configs — say which one.
  • Trackpads are an optional module, not on the included standard module. First-table `trackpads` says that.
  • Windows edition is unpublished on the spec block. Do not invent Windows 11 Home.
  • GadgetShowdown has not lab-tested AYANEO 3. 800-nit / 35W / $699 rows are OEM claims.
