ASUS’s Ally X (RC72LA) sheet prints Ryzen Z1 Extreme (Zen 4 8c/16t, RDNA 3 12 CU, 9–30W), 12GB×2 LPDDR5, 1TB or 2TB 2280 SSD, a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz 500-nit IPS, 80Wh, 678g, Windows 11 Home, and $799.99 on the US store. Valve’s OLED sheet keeps the 6nm 4–15W APU, 1280×800 HDR OLED, 16GB, 50Wh, ~640g, and SteamOS 3. Ally X lists two USB-C ports (USB 3.2 Gen2 + USB4 / Thunderbolt 4-compliant); Deck lists one USB-C with DisplayPort.

What the ASUS ROG Ally X (2024) hub emphasizes
- 80Wh 4-cell pack — double the capacity row versus original Ally’s 40Wh.
- 24GB on-board memory (12GB×2 LPDDR5, dual channel on the spec sheet; product page also says LPDDR5X).
- M.2 2280 1TB / 2TB + UHS-II microSD.
- Same Z1 Extreme / 12 CU / 7-inch 1080p 120Hz / 500-nit / FreeSync Premium display class as 2023 Ally, in a thicker 678g chassis.
What the Steam Deck OLED hub emphasizes
- Only current Steam Deck with HDR OLED, 1,000-nit HDR peak / 600-nit SDR, 110% P3, and up to 90Hz on Valve’s spec sheet.
- SteamOS 3 (Arch-based) plus KDE Plasma desktop — Valve’s console-like Steam UI, not Windows 11.
- Dual 32.5mm haptic trackpads with pressure-sensitive click. Ally and Switch do not ship this.
- 50Wh pack and Valve’s 3–12 hour gameplay claim; OLED page also says 30–50% more battery life than LCD Deck.
ASUS ROG Ally X (2024) caveats
- ASUS still does not publish a gameplay-hour range on the Ally X spec sheet. Do not invent one from the 80Wh capacity.
- Memory wording disagrees slightly: spec sheet says 12GB×2 LPDDR5; product page markets 24GB LPDDR5X. Quote both; do not pick a third type.
- $799.99 is the official US MSRP / ASUS Store figure. Street prices go stale.
Steam Deck OLED caveats
- Every brightness, battery-hour, and “up to 3× faster downloads” line is a Valve claim. GadgetShowdown has not lab-tested OLED Deck.
- Valve’s current US storefront price can differ from the November 2023 $549 / $649 launch pair. Re-check store.steampowered.com on write day.
- 64GB and 512GB LCD leftovers are a different hub. Do not paste OLED nits or Wi-Fi 6E onto LCD.
