Quick Answer

This is an OEM desk comparison of ASUS ROG Ally (2023) and ASUS ROG Ally X (2024), not a winner page. ASUS ROG Ally (2023) official SoC: AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme; Zen 4, 4nm, 8 cores / 16 threads, 24M…. Official sheets, re-checked

Both print Ryzen Z1 Extreme, RDNA 3 12 CU, 9–30W, 7-inch 1080p 120Hz 500-nit IPS, and Windows 11 Home. 2023 Ally (RC71L) is 16GB LPDDR5-6400, 512GB 2230, 40Wh, 608g, one XG Mobile / USB-C combo port. Ally X (RC72LA) is 12GB×2 LPDDR5, 1TB or 2TB 2280, 80Wh, 678g, dual USB-C, $799.99. The 2023 sheet still lists a separate Z1 (6c/12t, 4 CU, 2.8 TFLOPS) SKU — do not use those numbers on a Z1 Extreme sentence.

Re-checked 2026-09-19: rog.asus.com Ally 2023 spec and Ally X 2024 spec. Hours-of-gameplay stay unpublished on both ASUS sheets.

Quote the two official sheets. Do not invent a lab winner.

The verdict

What the ASUS ROG Ally (2023) hub emphasizes

  • Z1 Extreme + 12 RDNA 3 CUs and a published 9–30W TDP — a different power envelope than Deck’s 4–15W.
  • 7-inch FHD 120Hz, 500 nits, 100% sRGB, FreeSync Premium, Gorilla Glass Victus / DXC on the spec sheet.
  • ROG XG Mobile interface combined with USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen2, DisplayPort 1.4).
  • Windows 11 Home, Armoury Crate, fingerprint + Microsoft Pluton, UHS-II microSD.

What the ASUS ROG Ally X (2024) hub emphasizes

  • 80Wh 4-cell pack — double the capacity row versus original Ally’s 40Wh.
  • 24GB on-board memory (12GB×2 LPDDR5, dual channel on the spec sheet; product page also says LPDDR5X).
  • M.2 2280 1TB / 2TB + UHS-II microSD.
  • Same Z1 Extreme / 12 CU / 7-inch 1080p 120Hz / 500-nit / FreeSync Premium display class as 2023 Ally, in a thicker 678g chassis.

ASUS ROG Ally (2023) caveats

  • This hub locks the **Z1 Extreme 512GB** RC71L sheet. A Ryzen Z1 (6-core / 4 CU) SKU is on the same ASUS spec family — do not mix CU counts.
  • ASUS does not publish a 3–12 hour gameplay range on this spec sheet. Do not invent Deck-style hours.
  • Launch $699.99 is dated (13 June 2023 ASUS USA). Street prices go stale.

ASUS ROG Ally X (2024) caveats

  • ASUS still does not publish a gameplay-hour range on the Ally X spec sheet. Do not invent one from the 80Wh capacity.
  • Memory wording disagrees slightly: spec sheet says 12GB×2 LPDDR5; product page markets 24GB LPDDR5X. Quote both; do not pick a third type.
  • $799.99 is the official US MSRP / ASUS Store figure. Street prices go stale.
