Meta Quest 3 vs Meta Quest 3S

Side-by-side manufacturer rows copied from the named-model pages. We do not pick a winner, invent a third number, or average OEM conflicts.

Quick Answer

No winner. Meta Quest 3: Quest 3 is the volume mixed-reality buy: XR2 Gen 2, higher per-eye panel than Quest 2 / 3S, color passthrough, optional PC Link. It is not a Vision Pro, and it is not Quest 3S. Above-120 Hz refresh up to 240 Hz is a Quest 3 exclusive on Horizon OS developer notes. Meta Quest 3S: 3S is “Quest 3 mixed reality on a Quest 2-class panel.” Same XR2 Gen 2 and color 18 PPD passthrough.

The verdict

Meta Quest 3 or Meta Quest 3S — quote the two manufacturer sheets.

Every cell is the hub’s own manufacturer sentence. Flagged rows already contain a manufacturer disagreement on that hub.

Who Meta Quest 3 is for (from its hub)

  • Buyers who want Meta’s current pancake headset and the Quest Store / Horizon OS library, with optional PC Link.
  • Quest 2 owners upgrading for color passthrough, XR2 Gen 2, 8 GB, and 2064×2208 panels (developer table).
  • People choosing 3 over 3S for the compare-page 110° horizontal FOV and the higher physical panel, not for a different chip generation.

Who Meta Quest 3S is for (from its hub)

  • New standalone buyers who want current Horizon OS mixed reality (color passthrough, XR2 Gen 2) without Quest 3 pancake money.
  • Quest 2 owners who care about color MR and the Gen 2 chip, not a higher physical resolution.

Meta Quest 3 caveats

  • meta.com/quest/quest-3/, /quest-3s/, /compare/, and several help URLs returned HTTP 400 from this write environment. Numbers below come from Meta developer documentation and the indexed compare/tech-specs snippets. Date the live store again.
  • No invented battery minutes, nits, or comfort scores.
  • Quest 2 remains a valid sibling hub even though Meta’s tech-specs page says it is no longer available.

Meta Quest 3S caveats

  • Store / compare HTML 400 from this environment. Indexed snippets + developer tables only.
  • Launch-era 2024 blog prices ($299.99 / $399.99) are not a 2026 store confirmation. We do not print them as live MSRP.
  • No invented IPD, weight, or battery minutes.
