In short
iPad (10th generation) is the October 2022 $449 10.86-inch Liquid Retina slate: A14, landscape stereo, Smart Connector, Pencil USB-C / 1st gen. Buy leftover if you want the first USB-C base iPad. Skip it if you want current A16 silicon — that is iPad (A16).
Who it is for
- Leftover / refurb shoppers who want the first all-screen base iPad with USB-C, landscape Center Stage, and Smart Connector.
- People comparing 10th gen vs iPad (A16) on silicon (A14 vs A16) and storage (64/256 vs the later A16 ladder) — not on case size.
- Color-sensitive shoppers: Silver, Blue, Pink, Yellow.
Who should skip it
- Anyone who wants the current base iPad. That is iPad (A16) at /tablets/ipad-a16/.
- Buyers who want Pencil Pro, Pencil (2nd generation), hover, USB 3, or Wi-Fi 6E.
- People who need a compact 8.3-inch tablet.
Key differentiators
- First base iPad with USB-C, landscape 12MP Center Stage front camera, and Smart Connector — Newsroom’s “completely redesigned” 2022 claim.
- A14 Bionic: 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine. RAM is not published on Support 111840.
- Pencil USB-C + 1st gen (adapter required for 1st gen). Not Pencil Pro, not 2nd gen.
- USB 2.0 up to 480 Mb/s — same slow port later kept on iPad (A16).
Caveats
- Every nits and battery-hour line is an Apple claim. GadgetShowdown has not lab-tested this iPad.
- RAM is not on Support 111840 — keep the tablets-v1 memory key and write “not published.” Do not invent 4GB or 6GB from a teardown.
- The Support display block we pulled does not list P3, full lamination, or antireflective coating. Do not copy those Air rows.
- Apple product photography is not hosted here.

Overview
iPad (10th generation) is Apple’s October 2022 base 10.86-inch tablet — the first all-screen USB-C base iPad. Current base sell-in is iPad (A16). This hub stays so leftover shoppers and the vs mesh have an OEM first table instead of mixing A14 with A16.
We have not used this iPad. Newsroom “completely redesigned” copy stays an Apple claim.
Display, chip, and speakers
IPS Liquid Retina, 2360 × 1640, 264 ppi, 500 nits, True Tone. The Support display block we pulled does not list P3, full lamination, or antireflective coating — do not copy those Air rows.
A14 Bionic is 6-core CPU / 4-core GPU / 16-core Neural Engine. RAM stays not published. Speakers are landscape stereo with dual mics.
Pencil, keyboard, ports
stylus is Pencil USB-C + 1st gen — not Pencil Pro, not 2nd gen. keyboard is Smart Connector (Magic Keyboard Folio sold separately). ports is USB 2.0 480 Mb/s. Those three honest limits versus Air are why this leftover hub exists.
Battery
28.6Wh; up to 10 hours Wi-Fi web or video; 9 hours cellular web. 20W brick is in the box.

Frequently asked questions
Is this still the current base iPad?
No. Current base iPad on 19 September 2026 is iPad (A16). Keep this slug as the 2022 leftover.
Does it work with Apple Pencil Pro or 2nd generation?
Support does not list either. It lists Pencil (USB-C) and Pencil (1st generation) with an adapter.
How much RAM does it have?
Apple does not publish RAM on Support 111840. We write “not published.” Do not paste a rumor.
USB-C — how fast?
Support lists USB 2.0 up to 480 Mb/s. That is the same slow port later kept on iPad (A16).
