In short

17 Pro is the 2025 compact Pro: aluminum unibody, A19 Pro, 6.3-inch 3000-nit outdoor peak, 48/48/48 cameras with 4x / 8x optical-quality tetraprism, 18MP Center Stage, MagSafe and Qi2 both 25W, 50% in 20 minutes on a 40W adapter, $1,099 launch, 256GB floor. Keep it as the in-between hub between titanium 16 Pro and current 18 Pro. Do not invent mAh or a typical-use hour, and do not paste 18 Pro’s 24-hour typical-use / 36-hour video / 15-minute 60W cells onto this SKU.

Who it is for

  • Owners still on 17 Pro who want one honest OEM record before reading a future 17 Pro vs 18 Pro page.
  • 16 Pro owners doing upgrade math on the 2025 forks: aluminum unibody, 256GB floor, 48MP 4x tele, 18MP Center Stage, 3000-nit outdoor peak, Qi2 25W, 40W-class 20-minute charge.
  • People comparing Apple Intelligence device lists — Support still hosts 17 Pro as Apple Intelligence hardware (language/region footnotes apply).

Who should skip it

  • Anyone who wants the current Pro. That is iPhone 18 Pro (A20 Pro, variable-aperture Fusion Main, 24-hour typical-use table, $1,199 launch). This hub is the 2025 SKU.
  • Buyers who need 16 Pro’s titanium / $999 / 128GB / 5x 12MP tele story. 17 Pro left those cells.
  • People who need a published typical-use hour row or an audio-playback hour. 17 Pro Support prints video / streamed only.
  • US travelers who assume a nano-SIM tray. Support: 17 Pro / 17 Pro Max use eSIM only and are not compatible with physical SIM cards. Newsroom names the US among eSIM-only markets.

Key differentiators

  • First compact Pro with an aluminum unibody + Ceramic Shield 2 front / Ceramic Shield back and a vapor chamber laser-welded into the chassis (Newsroom + Support).
  • 48MP Fusion Main + 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide + 48MP Fusion Telephoto 100 mm (4x), plus 12MP optical-quality 8x at 200 mm — Apple’s 2025 Pro camera table, not 16 Pro’s 12MP 5x.
  • 18MP Center Stage front camera (tap to zoom and rotate) — the 2025 front-camera fork vs 12MP TrueDepth on 16 Pro.
  • Launch US MSRP moved to $1,099 with a 256GB floor. Wired 50% in 20 minutes on a 40W adapter; MagSafe and Qi2 both 25W.

Caveats

  • This is a leftover hub as of 2026-09-19. Street prices and iOS support years move. Re-pull Support 125090 and Apple’s current compatibility list on write day.
  • Support covers 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Lock 6.3-inch / 206 g / 33-hour video here. Do not paste Pro Max 2TB or longer hours.
  • apple.com/iphone-17-pro and /specs now redirect to /iphone/. Cite Support 125090 and the 9 September 2025 Newsroom post.
  • Support does not print an audio-playback hour or a typical-use hour for 17 Pro. Do not invent either from 16 Pro or 18 Pro.

Overview

iPhone 17 Pro is the September 2025 compact Pro. Apple’s own framing at launch was a new aluminum unibody, A19 Pro, a vapor chamber, and a 48MP Pro Fusion trio. The physical product is a 6.3-inch phone — 150.0 × 71.9 × 8.75 mm, 206 g — in silver, cosmic orange, or deep blue.

This hub exists so later phone writers can hang a one-generation-back spoke off iPhone 18 Pro without treating 17 Pro as either 16 Pro (titanium / 5x / $999) or 18 Pro (variable aperture / typical-use hours). The first spec table is phones-v1.

We do not claim we still have one on a desk. Where Support omits audio hours and typical use, we leave those cells unpublished.

Display

Support: Super Retina XDR, 2622 × 1206 at 460 ppi, ProMotion 120Hz, Always-On, Dynamic Island, 1000 / 1600 / 3000 nits outdoor, anti-reflective coating. Same pixel grid as 16 Pro; the outdoor-peak hop is the display story.

Software and what 2026 readers should not assume

Year introduced 2025. Support footnote still talks iOS 26 / Apple Intelligence beta language. Update policy stays “not a numbered year-count.”

Price, SKUs, and what not to invent

Launch US start $1,099, 256GB–1TB. Models A3256 / A3257. Not current sell-in on apple.com/iphone as of 19 September 2026.

Do not invent Geekbench, a 5x 12MP tele, or titanium. A 17 Pro vs 18 Pro vs-page is not live — link the locked 16 Pro pairs until it is.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the current iPhone Pro?

No. 17 Pro is the 2025 SKU (year introduced: 2025 on Support). The current compact Pro hub is /phones/iphone-18-pro/. Keep both URLs. Do not 301 this page.

Titanium or aluminum?

Aluminum unibody. Support and Newsroom: 7000-series aluminum, Ceramic Shield 2 front, Ceramic Shield back. Titanium ended on the compact Pro after 16 Pro.

4x or 5x telephoto?

17 Pro: 48MP Fusion Telephoto at 100 mm (4x) plus 12MP optical-quality 8x at 200 mm; 16x optical-quality range; 40x digital. 16 Pro is the 12MP 5x / 120 mm sheet. Lock 4x / 8x here.

Does 17 Pro have Camera Control?

Yes — same chassis extra as 16 Pro. 15 Pro does not.

Is $1,099 a 2026 street price?

No. $1,099 is Apple’s published US starting price on 9 September 2025 (256GB floor). Leftover and refurbished quotes change weekly.

How long is the battery?

Support: up to 33 hours video, 30 hours streamed. There is no audio-playback hour and no typical-use hour on 125090. 18 Pro’s 24-hour typical-use / 36-hour video table is a different sheet.

What changed in charging vs 16 Pro?

Wired: 50% in 20 minutes on a 40W+ adapter (16 Pro was ~30 minutes / 20W). Wireless: MagSafe still 25W; Qi2 moves from 15W to 25W.

Physical SIM?

No. Support: dual eSIM, not compatible with physical SIM cards. Newsroom lists the U.S. among eSIM-only markets.
