Overview
WH-1000XM5 is the 12 May 2022 1000X over-ear. Sony’s support sheet is still the source of truth in 2026: 30 mm driver, Bluetooth 5.2, SBC/AAC/LDAC, 250 g, 30/40-hour music table. The chassis is the generation tell — it does not fold.
This hub exists so a leftover/refurb vs-page does not have to re-derive XM5 from XM6 marketing. First table: headphones-v1.
Drivers, ANC, and wireless
Copy Sony’s UK sheet for driver, impedance, sensitivity, and frequency-response splits. ANC stays a named Sony system on the first table; QN1 detail is extra so XM6 can own QN3.
Wireless: Bluetooth 5.2, SBC/AAC/LDAC, A2DP/AVRCP/HFP/HSP. Multipoint is a 1000X software feature — if a later support note limits LDAC+multipoint, quote that note instead of inventing a rule.

Frequently asked questions
Does XM5 fold?
No. Sony’s package is a carrying case (or pouch on some SKUs) for a headset that swivels flat. XM4 and XM6 are the folding 1000X generations. Keep the headphones-v1 `fold` key and write the OEM behavior.
Is the battery worse than XM6?
Not on Sony’s music rows. Both sheets say max. 30 hours NC on and 40 hours NC off. The call NC-off row is 32 hours on XM5 and 28 hours on XM6 — quote both sheets; do not average them.
What codecs does XM5 list?
SBC, AAC, and LDAC on Bluetooth 5.2. LC3 is an XM6 row.
Is $399.99 what it costs today?
That is the 2022 US launch MSRP. Leftover and refurb tickets are a different number. Date whichever you cite.
