Caveats
- Every numeric battery, ANC, and “best noise cancellation” line on this page is a Sony claim. GadgetShowdown has not lab-tested XM6.
- Sony’s “Best Noise Cancellation” footnote is dated 1 June 2026 on the current US product page (IEC-style comparison vs top-10 headband ANC brands). Treat it as OEM marketing, not our ranking.
- LDAC “Priority on Sound Quality” and several spatial / assistant features require Sound Connect and compatible source devices. Do not invent codec + multipoint combinations Sony does not document.

Overview
WH-1000XM6 is the May 2025 1000X over-ear. Sony’s own framing is “best noise cancellation” in a foldable headband, with a 30 mm driver and the QN3 processor sitting on twelve microphones. The published battery table did not grow versus XM5: still up to 30 hours of music with noise canceling on, 40 hours with it off.
This hub exists so later over-ear writers can clone one honest device record. The first spec table is headphones-v1 — the same keys belong on XM5, Bose QC Ultra, AirPods Max, and Momentum pages. It is not a sitewide gadget schema and it is not an earbud schema. This page’s public path is locked at /headphones/sony-wh-1000xm6/.
We do not claim we flew with these or measured attenuation. Where Sony uses superlatives, we repeat the claim and point at the footnote date.
Drivers and OEM sound claims
Sony specifies a 30 mm neodymium dynamic driver (1.18 in on the US sheet). Wired JEITA response is 4–40,000 Hz. Bluetooth response splits 20–20,000 Hz at 44.1 kHz and 20–40,000 Hz for LDAC at 96 kHz / 990 kbps. Impedance and sensitivity are printed only for the analog cable, on vs off.
The product page adds “co-created with mastering audio engineers” and DSEE Extreme upscaling. Repeat as marketing. Do not invent a frequency-response graph.
ANC, awareness, and calls
anc and awareness are headphones-v1 rows. On XM6 Sony names Adaptive NC Optimizer, atmospheric-pressure optimizing, Ambient Sound, Auto Ambient Sound, and Quick Attention. Speak-to-Chat is an extra because it is a Sony software toggle, not a category-universal mode name.
Calls: twelve microphones and an AI beamforming story on the product page. The spec sheet only says MEMS / omnidirectional. Keep the count in extras or the microphone cell; do not invent a lab MOS score.

LDAC still needs a compatible source and Sound Connect “Priority on Sound Quality.” If a later firmware footnote changes LC3/Auracast availability, re-pull the spec sheet — do not keep a stale “ready” sentence without the URL date.

Fold, weight, and travel
Weight is approximately 254 g (8.96 oz). That is 4 g over Sony’s XM5 250 g / 8.82 oz row — not a reason to write “much heavier.” The travel fork is the fold + case, not the gram scale.
App and software
Sony | Sound Connect is the app cell. It is how Sony documents EQ, DSEE Extreme, Speak-to-Chat, multipoint, and assistant pairing. A Bose page writes “Bose app”; an AirPods Max page writes iOS/watchOS Settings (no third-party EQ app). Keep the key.
Price, SKUs, and what not to invent
US launch suggested retail is $449.99 (15 May 2025), $50 above XM5’s $399.99 launch. Launch colors were Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue. Later store colorways (Sand Pink, Sandstone on electronics.sony.com) are finish extras, not a new processor.
Do not invent independent scores, Amazon star averages, or “we wore them for a week.” If you need a winner against Bose QC Ultra or XM5, wait for a /headphones/…-vs-…/ page — this hub only describes one product.

Yes. Sony’s help guide tells you to shorten the sliders, rotate both cups flat, fold the left cup toward the headband, and store the headset in the supplied carrying case. That fold is the travel fork versus XM5, which only swivels flat.
What codecs does XM6 list?
The specification sheet lists SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 on Bluetooth 5.3. The product page separately calls the headset LE Audio and Auracast-ready. Do not add aptX unless Sony publishes it on this SKU.
Is the $449.99 price a street price?
No. $449.99 is Sony’s published US suggested retail on 15 May 2025. Colorways and retailer discounts change the ticket. Re-check electronics.sony.com on the day you quote a number.
Does XM6 have a companion app?
Yes. Sony | Sound Connect is how Sony documents EQ, DSEE Extreme, Speak-to-Chat, multipoint, and several spatial/assistant setups. Keep the headphones-v1 `app` key and change the OEM name on Bose / Apple / Sennheiser pages.
