In short
13-inch Air M5 is Apple’s current silent everyday Mac: M5, 16GB/512GB floor, 53.8Wh, 1.23 kg, two Thunderbolt 4 ports. Buy it for fanless portability and the raised storage floor — not for XDR brightness, HDMI/SD, or sustained Pro thermals. The 15-inch Air is a sibling; do not blend those dimensions or GPU floors into this table.
Who it is for
- Students and knowledge workers who want Apple’s current fanless Air with the 512GB storage floor and N1 Wi-Fi 7, not last year’s M3/M4 leftover.
- Buyers who will stay inside macOS / iPhone and do not need HDMI, SD, or a third Thunderbolt port.
- M1–M3 Air owners whose job-to-be-done is “lighter SSD floor + Center Stage + two external displays,” not a Pro mini-LED.
- Anyone who specifically wants a silent chassis. Apple still markets Air as fanless.
Who should skip it
- Anyone who needs the 15.3-inch Air. That is Support KB 126321 — different weight, GPU floor, and 66.5Wh pack.
- Video / compile buyers who want Liquid Retina XDR, HDMI, SDXC, or active cooling. That is the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 hub.
- Windows-only shops. This machine ships macOS; it is not a Snapdragon or Intel XPS alternative on the same OS.
- People shopping a used M3 Air at a steep discount who only browse and write. The paid delta is chip, RAM/SSD floor, camera, and wireless — not a new hinge.
Key differentiators
- 512GB SSD floor (double the prior Air generation, per Newsroom) and CTO up to 4TB — first time Air lists 4TB.
- N1 wireless: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 on the Support sheet. M3 Air is Wi-Fi 6E / Bluetooth 5.3.
- 12MP Center Stage + Desk View. M3 Air is still a 1080p FaceTime HD camera.
- Two Thunderbolt 4 ports with lid-open dual-display support (up to 6K+4K-class rows on the spec sheet) — M3 needed the lid closed for a second display.
Caveats
- Every battery, nits, and “world’s fastest CPU core” line is an Apple claim. GadgetShowdown has not lab-tested Air M5.
- This hub is 13-inch only. Do not paste 15-inch 1.51 kg / 66.5Wh / 10-core GPU floor numbers into this table.
- Apple product photography is not hosted here. Third-party IP guidelines do not give a commercial gadget site a clear redistribution license.
- Street prices move. $1,099 is Apple’s published US start on 3 March 2026.

Overview
The 13-inch MacBook Air with M5 is Apple’s March 2026 Air. Apple’s own framing is “the world’s most popular laptop,” now with M5, a 512GB storage floor, N1 wireless, and a 12MP Center Stage camera. The physical product is still a fanless 13.6-inch aluminum clamshell — 1.13 × 30.41 × 21.5 cm, 1.23 kg — in sky blue, midnight, starlight, or silver.
This hub exists so later laptop writers can clone one honest device record instead of re-deriving Air M5 from a vs-page. The first spec table is laptops-v1. Comparison URLs stay on their own -vs- slugs. This page’s public path is locked at /laptops/macbook-air-m5/.
We do not claim we compiled, exported, or traveled with this machine. Where Apple uses superlatives (“world’s fastest CPU core”), we repeat the claim and point at the Newsroom footnotes.
Chip, memory, and storage
Copy Apple’s floor; do not blend M3/M4/M5:
| Item (Apple) | 13-inch Air M5 |
|---|---|
| CPU | 10-core (4 super / 6 efficiency) |
| GPU | 8-core (CTO 10-core) |
| Memory | 16GB unified (CTO 24 / 32) |
| SSD | 512GB (CTO 1 / 2 / 4TB) |
| Bandwidth | 153GB/s |
Apple Intelligence availability is a Support footnote, not a measured NPU score.

Frequently asked questions
Why lock 13-inch?
Apple sells 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch Air M5 machines. Weight, battery pack, GPU floor, and pixel grid change. This hub is Support 126320 only. The 15-inch sibling is /laptops/macbook-air-15-m5/ (Support 126321).
What is actually new versus Air M3?
M5 vs M3, 16GB/512GB floor vs the M3 8GB/256GB-era options still on Support 118551, 12MP Center Stage vs 1080p FaceTime HD, N1 Wi-Fi 7 vs Wi-Fi 6E, and lid-open dual-display support. The 13.6-inch 500-nit Liquid Retina size class is the carryover.
Does Air M5 replace the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5?
No. Pro adds Liquid Retina XDR, ProMotion, HDMI, SDXC, a third Thunderbolt port, fans, and a longer video-streaming claim. Use the MacBook Pro 14 M5 hub for that SKU.
Is $1,099 a street price?
No. It is Apple’s published US starting price on 3 March 2026 for the 13-inch. Education, CTO RAM/SSD, and retailer discounts are separate.
