Who each watch is for
Series 5 is the first Always-On Apple Watch. If you already wear it, the Support-page story versus Ultra 4 is not “a brighter Series.” It is a different case class, a different GNSS class, and a watch that is not named on Apple’s watchOS 27 list.
Ultra 4 is the current adventure Apple Watch. Buy it for 49mm titanium, dual-frequency GNSS, satellite, dive path, Health Sensing System, and the 50 / 84 / 45-hour table — not because Series 5 “stopped being a watch.”
watchOS 27 — quote Apple
Series 12 Newsroom, 9 September 2026: “watchOS 27 will be available for Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later … and requires iPhone 11 or later or iPhone SE (2nd generation or later) with iOS 27 or later.” Series 5 is not on that sentence.
Always-On is not the Ultra story
